How to integrate your Google API key with SmartlyQ

Search for images for your content via Google Search!

Introduction

In SmartlyQ you can use your own Programmable Search Engine and custom search JSON API key to utilize Google Search and find images for your content.

Follow our step-by-step guide below to implement this feature!

Step 1: Create Your Google Search engine ID

1. Log into SmartlyQ:

2. Navigate to Accounts > Account Details:

  • Look for the Account Details settings of your SmartlyQ account. This is found in the left menu under the TOOLS heading. Expand the "Account" dropdown and select the "Account Details" option.

  • In the next screen select "Google API" from the left side menu and locate the "Google" section.

3. Create your first search engine!:

You'll be presented with the following window:

  1. Enter a name for your search engine, eg SmartlyQ

  2. Choose where the search engine will be allowed to search

    • Search within specific sites or pages
    • Search the entire web
  3. Under search settings select "Image search" and optionally "SafeSearch" (if you want to filter your results)

  4. Complete the recaptcha requirement

  5. Finally, press "Create"!

Press "Customize", and in the following screen "Overview", you can see your "Search engine ID".

Copy it, save it somewhere and paste it in SmartlyQ's "Search engine ID" field.

Step 2: Create Your Google search API Key

1. Navigate to the Custom Search JSON API: Introduction article and press the "Get a Key" button.

2. In the following window, form the dropdown menu, select "+Create a new project"

Give it an appropriate name, agree to the terms and press "NEXT".

3. You're all set! Press "SHOW KEY" to get your key and copy and paste it in SmartlyQ's "Search API key" field. Finally, press "Save changes".
